So the deck I built a few years ago is pretty shabby now. Turns out annual maintenance of a wood deck is critical, and suffice it to say, I haven’t done any annual maintenance!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ryan’s been helping me a lot. I did hire someone to remove the old boards because the deck screws were old and stripped. He finished that task this morning. Then Ryan and I took the old wood to the dump and put the new boards down so the dogs could go back outside. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We do have to saw off the old screws but it’s really just too hot outside – almost 100!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This project will take a few weeks to complete since I’m back at work full time now. But it’s going to be beautiful when it is done!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So Ryan and I made great progress today on the deck refurbishment project today. Out of the 21 boards, we got all but 3 done. We’ll finish the boards tomorrow and then it’s filling, sanding, priming and painting. Should be done before September 1st.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sunday, August 23, 2020<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new deck boards are all in and the deck is ready for pressure washing. The primer should be here Tuesday and I’ve ordered the Sherwin Williams Super Deck and Dock<\/a> coating. I plan to put two full coats which will be mixed with Duckback Anti-skid Additive<\/a>. The color is being mixed to match my new lifetime stained gates that I had built in 2018:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is the deck now ready to be pressure washed, primed and painted. I hope to get that finished in the next couple of weeks while the weather is nice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Saturday, August 29, 2020<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I pressure washed the deck after work yesterday so I could prime and paint it today. Got one coat done and will put a second coat tomorrow. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I also fell after I was done and hurt my arm pretty bad. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Woo hoo! The deck refurbishment project is almost done! I put a second coat on today and it’s looking great! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We have to let it dry for 48 hours before moving the furniture back. Once the furniture is back, I’ll paint the front and ends of the deck. Then it will really be done!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Monday, September 7, 2020 (Labor Day)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The deck project is officially done and furniture moved back in place. I so love my backyard!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
