After reading my recent blog honoring my son’s birthday – he sent me a very heartfelt email. He actually shared with me a very personal situation he’s going through and wanted my insight.  You’ll recall that we were always pretty close.

Without divulging anything too personal, suffice it to say it was all about the challenge he’s having with someone who truly is not emotionally available.   Naturally, I had some very sage advice for him.  Perhaps I should take my own advice right now.

Trying to engage someone who is so out of touch with their own feelings – especially when they have so much they are dealing with emotionally – requires patience, understanding and compassion.  But when that person is not very nice in response to my trying to reach out – it feels awful.

Perhaps I’m trying too hard and should just let it go.  If he wants me in his life, he knows how to reach me.

And yes – that’s about the same advise I gave my son.
