WordPress.com site to WordPress.org installed on my own website
I started with LiveJournal, then MySpace. Finally I wanted a site to compile all of my journal entries so I went with WordPress.com (it is ‘free’). That has served me well for years but as they have grown, so has their ‘add on’ fees so I decided to get my own website (I already owned my ‘shawnna.org’ domain name) and installed WordPress.org software. Converting my WordPress.com journal to my WordPress.org website was easier than I imagined.
I should qualify that by saying it isn’t a simple click and it’s done.
You must have the proper version of the WordPress importer for the version of WordPress.org you installed on your own site. That took a bit of searching to figure out.
Also, images don’t automatically transfer so I’ve been busy checking each post and uploading the images to my new site. To get through eight years of journaling will take a while, but fortunately I didn’t upload many pics prior to using wordpress.com.
My own domain/site with WordPress.org installed is a lot less and I can do so much more with it.
I am leaving my old site up with posts redirecting folks to the new site – just to be sure no one is lost in the conversion. I don’t get a lot of visitors (that isn’t what this is for).
However, since I posted the briefs related to the WA State Supreme Court case – Bain vs MERS – I’ve had a little more traffic.
