True Friends

Posted on April 5, 2006 by shawnnaApril 5, 2006

Perhaps my lesson now is to discern TRUE friends from those who are not so true?

Here's a few of the definitions of TRUE friends:

A true friend is someone who sees past your outside to see the beauty inside.

A true friend is someone who sees your ugly side and still loves you.

A true friend is someone you can call at 3:00 in the morning if your world is falling apart.

TRUE friends will always be honest with you, even when they know what they say may be hurtful. They will always say what needs to be said – BUT it will always be tempered with compassion and caring. And the only reason they will ever say anything that may be hurtful is to help you grow emotionally or spiritually.

Avoiding a potentially hurtful conversation is NOT something that TRUE FRIENDS do. They don't run away when the going gets tough.

TRUST is the foundation of all relationships – and there can be no greater relationship than that of a TRUE FRIEND.

Words versus Actions

Posted on April 2, 2006 by shawnnaApril 2, 2006

Yes – I can honestly say that moving through the phases of grief definitely ARE in direct correlation to the length of time trust was shared. I see so clearly now the manipulation and lying that should have been so evident before. Hindsight is always 20/20.

From now on, any disconnect between what someone says, and what they do, will be clearly noted and I will assume their actions reflect who they REALLY are. And I won't waste another minute on someone who is clearly empty inside.

So much accomplished this weekend – am truly looking forward to my trip to Baltimore and then next weekend!

EDIT – I also found my old ATM/Debit Visa card – in the washer after doing a load of laundry! At least my new replacement card came yesterday – no pin yet but I can use it as a credit card for my trip to Baltimore.

NOTE TO SELF – stop putting your ATM/Debit card in your jeans pocket when you fill up the car!!!

Sheesh……..

Brett's back!

Posted on March 30, 2006 by shawnnaMarch 30, 2006

Our Brett has returned! I've been so worried about him. Apparently he lost our phone numbers when he lost his cell phone and then he moved to Henderson, Nevada to live with his Dad and brother.

He was in Austin, Texas visiting his mom recently and was able to find Mark's number which is how he came back to us!

He's so grown up now….. I remember when he and Ryan were just 3 years old and riding their Big Wheels around the neighborhood. The boys have grown up now and are all wonderful young men! I'm so very proud of all of them!

I made Brett promise never to disappear like that again! Nothing he ever does could make us love him any less! We all make bad choices in life and he's done a remarkable job coming through his.

It is so hard on kids when a parent leaves. If only parents realized how important it is to be totally involved in their children's lives. Too often adults make very selfish decisions and their children suffer the consequences. Both Brett and Colby (his younger brother) have suffered because of decisions made by their mom. I can totally relate. Brett is really trying very hard to get his act together and with his help, I'm sure Colby will come through OK too.

My prayers are with Doug (their Dad) who has taken responsibility for both of them. He's obviously a stand-up guy – I admire him for sticking with his sons – when they need him the most.

Finally some very positive news in an otherwise not-so-positive few weeks. Yes – I'm happy and grateful to have Brett back in the family again!

Reality

Posted on March 25, 2006 by shawnnaMarch 25, 2006

I remember a marriage counselor once saying to me “if he wanted to call, he would call. And if he wanted to be with you, he would be with you”.

That is reality. Sometimes holding onto the reality of any situation is much harder than it sounds. It is so much easier to hang on to the fantasy.

Love

Posted on March 24, 2006 by shawnnaMarch 24, 2006

When you hear the words, “I love you” for the first time in a new relationship, it's easy to interpret the words to actually mean that the person loves who YOU are, what you feel, your personal integrity and character…the essence of you as a person.

BUT, there can be a hidden or unconscious meaning to those words.  Sometimes, “I love you” means, “I love the way you make ME feel” — a completely different meaning than what you might have interpreted to begin with.

How do you know the difference?  Time is truly the only way to find out.   Get to know who the person REALLY is BEFORE committing your heart to the relationship.  Listen carefully to what they say, how they describe those they have “loved” in the past, what they truly value in life, how they relate to their family and their friends.  Keep your eyes open for obvious red flags – do they say one thing but do something completely different?  Actions do speak much louder than words.

Observe what happens after the first argument, the first moment of tension, the first crisis in the relationship.  Can they acknowledge their own error and how it made you feel?  Can you do the same?

It is so tempting to give in to the “chemistry” or the desire to connect with someone before you truly KNOW them.  Our soul longs to feel connected (and hormones play a role in this as well!).

Understand what “love” means to you; be honest with yourself, as well as your partner, what you need and want from the relationship.  Listen carefully to what their needs/wants are.

Authentic relationships are built on a foundation of trust – be open and honest but always with compassion.  Definitely not always easy but so important if you want a long-term loving connection with your partner.

Some people just leave a relationship and appear to move on to the next one almost immediately; no real discussion, no apparent regret, no tears, nothing.  Perhaps it is because their capacity for “love” was only viable as long as you made them feel valuable and good about themselves.  And when that subsided, so did the entire “relationship” (which, if you think about it, wasn't a true relationship in the first place).

Wisdom can come at a very high emotional price.

Light

Posted on March 15, 2006 by shawnnaMarch 15, 2006

I am positive I understand the spiritual lesson of my Lent.

Recently, I have acted in a very negative way toward people I've never even met. And to add insult to injury – my actions are now documented somewhere for all to see thanks to the lack of integrity of two of those individuals I thought I could trust. I wonder if I would feel such remorse if they hadn't betrayed my trust? Of course, the answer is NO.

And there are NO coincidences so this was all meant to be as well.

This is NOT reflective of who I am or my life's purpose.

Getting caught up in recent events, I let go of who I am in favor of trying to 'fit in' with others I thought I could trust. And there's NO excuse for this at this point in my life.

I am deeply disappointed in how I've acted. Perhaps if I had truly reflected who I am, things may have been different.

To reflect Love, to draw out the Light of Life, to leave others feeling better because of their encounter with me – all of this was recently LOST and buried in my own dark shadow.

Lesson definitely learned – the hard way – as usual.

Trust

Posted on March 13, 2006 by shawnnaMarch 13, 2006

Trust is the foundation of all relationships.

When a child's trust is betrayed, the wound goes very, very deep.

Learning to trust again can be difficult.

Our souls long for connectedness and if we can't learn to trust, we can't feel connected.

Understanding what leads one soul to betray another has been helpful in healing the wounds. Human behavior and desire is very complex.

Self-awareness has opened my heart. With openness comes vulnerability and sometimes a trust given isn't deserved.

Wisdom is my soul's desire. Let me always approach a betrayal, no matter how large or small and seemingly insignificant, with love and forgiveness.

What goes around, comes around – always.

Lent and Spring

Posted on March 9, 2006 by shawnnaMarch 9, 2006

Even though I grew up in the Roman Catholic church, Lent never held much meaning for me. While I loved the mystery of the Latin mass and the liturgical seasons, I never really understood the connection it had to my 'real' life.

Around 1990, I began exploring my spirituality in depth. I have always felt different – kind of like ultra-conscious of all feelings and energies. A wonderful teacher I had in school – who I'm still in contact with – described me as the most intense young woman he had ever known.

Through the Episcopal church I was attending with the boys after moving to the Seattle area following my divorce, I met a former RC nun and at the suggestion of the parish priest, we began “spiritual direction”. Sounds weird, I know, but it was the most enlightening experience for me. For well over 10 years, she helped me see God at work in my life.

One constant theme since becoming aware of the ebb and flow of my life has been the challenges of Lent. Without fail, Lent has always brought significant opportunities to go deeper into my soul and explore God.

Usually this has been accompanied by some significant emotional upheaval or turmoil.

The first few months of this year have been so extraordinary. I am hoping this Lent will be different and I will be given opportunities for spiritual growth that aren't founded in turmoil. We'll see……. it's clear emotional upheaval will play a significant part in this year's Lent.

My candles are lit and I'm opening my heart to all possibilities. Feeling so spiritually and emotionally connected to someone is something that has been missing from my life for so long. I realize now how empty my heart was when Steve and I were together.

And as Spring begins, I am confident my heart IS open. Now I just need to keep my wits about me and not let this wonderful feeling of being drawn to someone interfere with what I know is important in building a lasting bond.

Something to think about

Posted on March 5, 2006 by shawnnaMarch 5, 2006

I find myself in an odd place. So much has happened in the last month. And I've never, ever believed in coincidence.

I've experienced extraordinary connectedness, as well as witnessed astounding darkness.

Not quite sure what to think and am confused by my feelings. To feel so drawn to someone – even though we've not met in person – is my reality right now.

Is this another way to avoid true intimacy? Maybe, but it doesn't feel that way. We have shared extraordinarily personal thoughts and feelings – and that IS intimacy.

I do know we were meant to meet – of that much I'm VERY sure. But why? Only time will tell.

The Bigger Picture

Posted on February 28, 2006 by shawnnaMarch 10, 2012

The Bigger Picture

Because knowledge is power, and not all individuals can handle power responsibly, there is good reason why much technology remains hidden from the public. The general rationale is that were certain technologies to fall into the wrong hands, there would be devastating results. For example, teleportation technology used by criminals would render bank safes obsolete.

On the other hand, it is through suppression of technology that the manipulators of this world maintain their overwhelming control. One avenue of control and funding for the elite, the oil industry, would crumble if free energy technology replaced petroleum technology, and if the transition were smooth, we would be liberated from dependence upon finite energy resources. The extra time, capital, and energy gained could then be applied toward progress instead of survival.

So regarding the suppression of knowledge, it is a question of which poses a greater threat: the irresponsible use of knowledge by the ignorant, or the hoarding and consequent abuse of knowledge by the elite? The first justifies keeping certain knowledge secret, the second justifies its release to disempower the manipulators.

At the highest levels of truth, there is no difference between technology, occultism, and metaphysics – for all are part of a whole and the grand truth in one thus contains the grand truth in the other. Rules and structure still exist outside physicality, and these can be included in science with provisions made for freewill choice. A complete science would place astral planes, parallel dimensions, synchronicities, consciousness, etheric fields, telepathy, vital energies, emotional energies, volition, hyperdimensional existence and timeloops all under the same framework. At present, these appear to be phenomena distinct from science, but that is because science as we know it is incomplete. It is not that these phenomena can be explained in terms of present science as reductionists and debunkers enjoy doing, but rather that present science must expand to accomodate these phenomena in terms of higher physical and metaphysical principles.

To know nature is to know one portion of the Creator. To know yourself is to know another portion of the Creator. Because what is within mirrors what is outside, and what is outside mirrors what is within, knowing both nature and yourself makes for a straight path toward knowing the Creator.
